The left bank of Bordeaux’s famous wine communes of Pauillac and Margaux are flat and pretty uneventful, save the impressive chateaus set back along the highway and the goods within them. Unfortunately, appointments are necessary to visit these top cellars, or “chais”, as they are called. I only had an hour to spare and getting a closer look at some of the most expensive and sought after wines in the world was going to have to wait. Rumor has it the Chinese, if allowed to, would buy the entire production of Chateau Margaux ten times over. For now, however, this photo essay of a few exteriors will have to suffice.
