Brash Higgins 2014 ‘FRNC’ Cabernet Franc
Our first Cabernet Franc, 100% grown from a neighbouring vineyard planted in 2001 and made at Brash HQ. Vintage 2014 provided ideal growing conditions for Cab Franc with a long, slow, even season after a hot start. The idea for this FRNC was to focus on the aromatics and delicacy of the fruit, making it an ease to drink but still complex, age worthy.
“A translucent ruby/violet in colour. The nose is lifted, aromatic, complex; definitely cabernet family, with jalapeno chilli and a roasted, sweet charred green capsicum nose, almost toffee-like, like chilli rellenos from a Mexican bodega, or even tomato leaf, pipe tobacco. Conjures entering a log cabin in Northern Wisconsin months after the last fire. There is pepper, cedar, meat, ashes, rose petals, earthy fragrances like piles of leaves in autumn, some tarry nebbiolo characters. Balanced, vibrant, medium bodied, the wine has a satiny and svelte mouth feel and a long smooth finish with grip.”- Brad Hickey, Vinitor, November 7, 2014.
