Brash Higgins 2021 Grenache “Smart Vineyard”, Clarendon
This is our first, true stand alone Grenache. One parcel handpicked from the heritage Smart Vineyard in the hilly sub region of Clarendon. Planted in 1955, this is one of the real grand cru sites in South Australia. Hand-picked and fermented wild in an open fermenter for two weeks, the pressed wine spent fifteen months in two trusty 500L French puncheons. This time in barrel further forged the fine tannins and helped flesh out the perfume of this fine Grenache.
The artist is well regarded Sydney painter Alesandro Ljubicic. Ales’s work also graces our Chenin Blanc label. You can see more of his fantastic work and contact him @alesandroljubicic
‘Ebullient nose; floral, cloves and sweet fruited, pinot-esque. Notes of feijoa, orange peel and cinnamon spice co-mingles nicely with the lively, bright red fruits. Medium bodied with dusty tannins, this wine really showcases the depth and vibrant nature of the Smart Vineyard Grenache, as well as highlighting the structure much needed for longer ageing.’ – Brad Hickey, Vinitor, August 30, 2022.
